It operates two North American combined distribution centres with warehouses in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Springfield, Missouri, as well as two European DCs in Belgium and Germany, and has operations in Costa Rica and India.

The Challenge

Rather Outdoors inherited SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) on ECC following one of its acquisitions, operating in the Tulsa DC. With no internal team to operate the system, The Config Team successfully navigated Rather Outdoors through the transition period, bringing a great level of stability and security to the business through expert SAP support.

Having seen the benefits of EWM at Tulsa, Rather Outdoors made the decision to continue its partnership with The Config Team and deliver SAP EWM on ECC as the global ERP standard throughout its business portfolio.

It was decided that the global deployment of SAP EWM would begin in North America, kicking the project off with a greenfield rollout at its Springfield DC.

The Solution

The Config Team implemented an end-to-end greenfield SAP EWM and ECC solution at the Springfield DC while ensuring that operations continue to run at the existing Tulsa site,

Identified as the lead partner, The Config Team oversaw the overall management of the project, which involved leading the interaction with all other vendors, including hosting, SAP ECC, SAP Basis, network, EDI, and hardware partners.

Taking place during the covid-19 pandemic, The Config Team was able to successfully execute a proportion of the project remotely, with consultants working on-site for key milestones to ensure quality delivery.

Seasonal product demand was an important consideration, with mid to late summer identified as a busy period where it was essential that operations had to continue as normal. The Config Team was able to strike the balance between delivering on deadlines, while also working around busy times, with the project completing on schedule.

As well as delivering SAP EWM, The Config Team also deployed its mobile solution for the SAP supply chain, PreBilt™. Making SAP easy for users, PreBilt is a rapid-deployment solution for quickly and easily executing supply chain processes and barcode scanning on mobile devices.

Designed with the end user in mind, no technical knowledge or prior experience in SAP or mobile solutions is required to operate PreBilt. With temporary seasonal staff typically making up between one-third to two-thirds of operatives, it is expected that the solution will decrease onboarding times and increase productivity and efficiency.

Building on the partnership, Rather Outdoors and The Config Team are in discussions about the deployment of SAP EWM and ECC to a new manufacturing site in Costa Rica, as well as its two European sites.
