We recently spoke with one of our functional consultants, Lois McKay, about her role in our product team and how it has developed since she joined us through our Associate Academy in 2020.
“In my role as a functional consultant in our product team, I primarily focus on the deployment of our mobile solution for the SAP supply chain, PreBilt™. I was also lucky enough to be involved in its development. My work includes engaging with customers in workshops, designing and implementing the solution, supporting existing users, handling change requests and developments. Beyond that, I contribute to the core product roadmap and explore PreBilt innovations.
“We work in squads within the product team, with each squad containing a mix of functional and technical consultants, solution architects and project managers. I place a lot of value on teamwork and being able to collaborate and share ideas, so working on projects with my squad is always a positive experience. I’ve developed a great understanding of how each individual likes to work, and I enjoy how we can share skills and ideas to come up with the best solution together.
“I joined The Config Team through its Associate Academy programme straight out of university where I studied Mathematics. I had no prior knowledge of SAP before joining. The decision to apply was driven by my passion for problem-solving and logical thinking, plus the travel opportunities and the combination of teamwork and customer interaction that comes with functional consulting.
“My development in the Associate Academy heavily revolved around on-the-job learning. Shadowing more senior consultants on projects and benefiting from their mentorship helped me pick up the knowledge and skills that I needed to succeed in my own role. I’m naturally curious and willing to ask questions, and I never say no to new projects or opportunities, which has allowed me to really grow and carve out my own path within The Config Team. Since completing the Associate Academy my role has evolved significantly, and nowadays I often find myself taking the lead on increasingly complex projects.
“Being part of the product team since it was relatively new, I’ve seen it grow and develop into the integral business area it is today. We’ve got great long-term relationships with our customers, and they love our solutions. Often what begins as an implementation at one site leads to multi-site, multi-solution deployments. We’ve got a lot of interesting work coming up for us in product, and we’re seeing some brilliant household names come in as new customers, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the next few years will bring.”
