As we celebrate our product manager, Geoff Gray’s, ten-year anniversary with us, we had a chat with him to get his unique perspective on our software team’s amazing growth and development since its early days.
“I joined The Config Team in 2014 after previously holding IT management, infrastructure and business reporting roles at a B2C finance company. At the time, The Config Team was a small, fast-growing business with lots of potential. My passion for IT and the supply chain, combined with the company’s brilliant culture and family-like atmosphere, made the decision to join an easy one.
“Despite having no prior SAP knowledge, I learned quickly and was shadowing on a project within two weeks. Over the next few years, I gained experience on a wide range of consultancy engagements which included interfacing SAP with a 3PL, global rollouts of SAP Warehouse Management (WM) and SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), where I was involved in the testing and training phases. I also took my first steps in the world of software on multiple CodingControl™ and PreBilt™ implementation projects. I worked with customers across various industries including pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, oil and gas, manufacturing and retail.
“Later, I transitioned into a presales role, working closely with our sales and marketing teams. In this position I conducted product demonstrations for customers and prospects, and managed relationships with strategic partners.
“When COVID19 hit, it gave us a chance to think about how we could further differentiate ourselves as a business and come out of the pandemic stronger. One thing we did was focus on the potential of our software solutions and utilise our existing skills to further enhance them. There had always been a software team within the delivery side of the business, but it was at this point that software became its own entity. I’d always been involved in software from the beginning, so it was a natural choice for me to join the team and help it grow.
“Since then, the software team has thrived, growing into a significant part of the business. We’ve massively expanded our user base for PreBilt, CodingControl, and IDoc Management Console™, with these solutions now being used across the world. This has also meant working with more international partners. There’s been lots of industry changes that we’ve adapted to in our solutions, such as the shift from Windows to Android, ECC to S/4HANA, and SAP WM to EWM, with insights gained from our partnership with Gartner proving invaluable. Constant innovation has also been a massive element of our growth, with PreBilt now boasting many wow factors including integration with voice and wearable technology, real time messaging as well as gamification, which earned us an innovation award from SAP.
“Leading the software team has been really rewarding, and I’m very proud of the talented team and everything they’ve achieved. We’ve grown massively in size and developed great, supportive leadership structures such as deployment squads. Seeing our solutions go live and putting a smile on customers’ faces always fills me with pride. As we continue this exciting journey, I’m looking forward to seeing how we can continue to help our customers amidst technology’s continuing evolution and the dynamic nature of the SAP supply chain.”
