On International Women’s Day, we are celebrating Rachel Greenwood, who has been with The Config Team for almost 12 years. Rachel joined us as a Consulting Manager and has recently moved into a new role as Head of Digital Supply Chain Practice. We asked Rachel about her impressive career at The Config Team, and how she’s getting on in her new role.
“I have been here for 12 years, from back when we didn’t have project management, PMO, or any of the structured processes we have today. It was mostly a consulting business at the time, and I came in to work alongside Andrew, our Managing Director, to establish how we manage and run our projects. For many years, it was just me overseeing this, but as the company grew so did the PMO team and I am proud to say it is now a team of 15 project managers.
I have seen the company grow from being solely a consultancy through to establishing our software business and dedicated AMS team. I feel lucky to have worked in all three business areas, which ensures I have a deep understanding of activities across the company. I have worked with every customer that has come to The Config Team for consultancy services and through my knowledge of customer operations, combined with our internal team capabilities, I can ensure I match the right people to the right projects, ensuring we continue to exceed client expectations.
Throughout my career I’ve been inspired by several amazing women. These are women that have been in my team who are achieving amazing things, and mentors who’ve guided me during early parts of my own career. I enjoy doing a lot of work with the Associate Academy and I was delighted to see more and more women joining up in the past few years. Attending the Women in SAP conference in London last year was very insightful, I learnt a lot from senior women in major companies like Google, Apple, & SAP. I feel women can offer a unique perspective in a predominantly male industry, and my advice to women starting in this industry is to not be afraid to share that perspective.
I am proud to have joined the senior leadership team here and excited about leading the future direction of our consultancy business to ensure we are set up to best leverage new SAP developments to deliver results for our customers. It is a busy time for a lot of our customers as they embark on S/4HANA migrations and I am looking forward to bringing together all our capabilities across EWM, IBP and wider supply chain modules to support their SAP projects.
My new role sees me heading up a much larger team than previously at The Config Team, but something I have previous experience of so I am finding it very rewarding. I’m enjoying working across the breadth of the business, getting to work with a lot of people who I’ve either worked with in the past and being able to reconnect with them again, or people I haven’t had a chance to work with yet since they’ve joined the company.
What I find interesting is working with such a diverse range of customers, seeing the different ways they work and helping solve their individual challenges. We have customers in the automotive industry, food retailers, chemical companies, pharmaceutical businesses and many more, and all of them have different requirements and ways of working that bring different challenges to the team. We are in a unique position as a company as we are large enough to meet the requirements of enterprise level customers, but small enough to be able to take the time to get to know each customer, learn what is important to them and provide the best solution for their business.”
