Delivering an Automated Storage Solution in SAP Extended Warehouse Management

Building on a strong history of SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) work, we’re excited to be embarking on a new project with one of our longstanding customers, providing our expertise to help deliver a new state-of-the-art automated storage facility.

We’ve been working with the customer, one of the leading British automotive manufacturers, for several years now on a series of successful projects together. This includes an ongoing implementation of an SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) and S/4HANA solution.

While the company specialises in internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles at present, it is planning on expanding into the electric vehicles market. It is therefore anticipated that demand will increase in the coming years, with more pressure on its production lines as a result. With this in mind, the customer is looking to construct a new integrated logistics facility to house automotive small parts, increasing efficiency with automated storage, retrieval and picking processes for both existing and new production lines.

Based on our great relationship with the customer and unmatched knowledge of its systems and processes, we were asked to participate and contribute to a solution design for the planned facility. This will be a collaborative engagement involving multiple stakeholders, including the customer and a system integration partner (SI). The SI will be responsible for the automation design and specification, with our role being to extend the configuration build of the current SAP EWM design to ensure the automation solution fits seamlessly into the customer’s current landscape.

Delivering on the requirements of this design phase of the project, we will be attending pre-blueprint alignment sessions and project workshops with all stakeholders before embarking on our design for the solution. This will include updates to the requirements traceability matrix, RICEFWs, business process master list and blueprint design document. This blueprint will be played back to all stakeholders to ensure it is fit for purpose before moving on to the build stages of the project.

Commenting on this project, our head of UK SAP practice, Paul Fraser, said: We are excited to begin work on this latest engagement, helping deliver an automated solution that will provide immense benefits for our customer as it looks to expand its operations for the future. With a fantastic team on the project, our EWM skills, in-depth knowledge of the customer’s SAP landscape and great ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders make us the ideal partner to deliver on all requirements.”
