We recently spoke to our supply chain transformation consultant, Martin Jones, about his extensive background in supply chain, our S/4HANA advisory service and how it benefits our customers.
“As a supply chain transformation consultant at The Config Team, one of my roles is to provide a strategic S/4HANA Advisory Service to guide our customers through successful supply chain transformations. I work closely with key stakeholders to help them harness the full potential of their systems, creating sustainable, efficient and future-proof operations and technological strategies.
“I think our S/4HANA Advisory Service is a brilliant offering for our customers, both current and future. Many businesses operating SAP have transformation at the forefront of their minds, but with lots of conflicting information, it can be hard to know where to even begin. What we can do is provide an independent voice of reason to cut through the confusion, whatever stage the company is at in its journey, and bring a balanced perspective from both a technical and business point of view.
“I have an extensive background in warehousing and logistics, with over 30 years of experience honing my skills in the FMCG industry, implementing both SAP and non-SAP systems. I’ve been working with SAP for over 25 years, falling into the area, as many people do, when the company I was working for adopted it. Operating across the large scope of the SAP supply chain landscape, particularly Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), I naturally ended up working with S/4HANA as it grew in prominence.
“I primarily see myself as a ‘business person who understands IT’. I’ve held several different roles over the years including business partner and business process owner. A good portion of my work involved me bridging the gap between SAP and the end user, making it accessible and easy for people to understand.
“I joined The Config Team as a functional consultant and a team lead, heading up the SAP FICO team in the S/4 practice. I was delighted to be able to leverage my background as a BPO and supply chain leader and continue to offer valuable transformation advice to our customers in this role. I was then promoted to the newly created position of supply chain transformation consultant to make S/4HANA Advisory Services my primary focus going forward, while still looking after the brilliant FICO team.
“I really enjoy helping people on their individual supply chain transformation journeys. Witnessing the tangible benefits of successful implementations and knowing I played a role in that is truly rewarding for me.
“As businesses increasingly look to the benefits of S/4HANA, I’m looking forward to working with even more of our customers on their transformations. With clean core strategies being widely talked about in the industry, lots of businesses are taking the opportunity to start afresh with their systems and get them as standard as possible. I’m excited about working on more greenfield implementations and collaborating with stakeholders to design their business processes from scratch.”
